There is something simply amazing about sitting down with a cup of coffee or tea, a blanket, and a book. Next to that the feeling of walking into a book store and drinking in the smell of coffee and the site of books knowing that I could get lost in the aisles for hours wishing I could take the whole store home with me.
I have to thank my parents for my great fondness of losing myself for hours in the pages of a good book. I grew up in a small town and lived in a little neighborhood out in the country. Days were spent playing outside with neighbor kids in intense games of cops and robbers, kick the can, and hid and seek. When no friends were around to play we had the choice of falling asleep to Bob Ross painting on Iowa Public Television or getting lost in a good book. Depending on the day I would sometimes choose to watch Mr Ross painting happy little bubbling brooks and beating the devil out of his brushes. These days always ended in afternoon naps in the sun, as nothing puts me to sleep faster then watching Bob Ross paint. :)
But back to my love for books. Tonight I ventured out in to this perfect spring afternoon to find the books needed for my summer classes that will begin in two weeks. Barnes and Noble only had one of the three books and the family christian book store was able to order the other two for much cheaper and without the cost of shipping. SCORE! However, it is everything I can do to hold myself back from buying all the books I can hold into any book store. Not only is it amazing how lost I can get in a book and spend the entire day reading, but I find the smell of books intoxicating and the whole experience of reading a good book simply blissful. With that said text books or school books have never and will never have this intoxicating affect on me, and I was on a school book mission. So I held my own and stayed strong only buying what was needed at Barnes and Nobles, but when I got the family christian book store it was all down hill. Two text books back ordered, two more christian books for pleasure reads, and a CD (that's proceeds go to a good cause)... the grand total of my bill... don't ask. I'm a bit ashamed in my efforts of not spending money, but in my defense I will definitely use these two new books in my future work and who doesn't love music? So tonight I didn't succeed in saving money but I did succeed in washing my car, getting gas, doing yoga, playing catch with the pup, buying school books... and now let the fun begin.....time to get lost in the pages of a good book. So I'm off to another world... until next time.
God Bless!
Kate
"I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book! When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library."--Jane Austen in Pride and Prejudice
